Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited has announced a revision in the completion schedule for its Srikakulam-Angul Pipeline Project, citing delays in forest clearance for the spur line. The project, spanning 744 km, consists of a 422 km main line and a 322 km spur line, which together aim to enhance natural gas transportation and infrastructure connectivity in eastern India.

Main Line Successfully Commissioned

The main pipeline was successfully commissioned on September 26, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the project. This section is already operational and contributing to the movement of natural gas, improving energy accessibility for industries and households along the route.

Spur Line Delayed Due to Forest Clearance

The 322 km spur line faced delays due to pending forest clearance for a 56 km section. The necessary permissions were progressively received by June 23, 2025, with tree cutting permissions granted through September 2025. Tree cutting work is currently underway, and the revised completion date for the entire project is now scheduled for June 2026.

GAIL’s Board of Directors approved this timeline revision in their meeting on January 3, 2026. The company confirmed that this disclosure is in compliance with SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

Commitment to Regulatory Compliance and Environmental Responsibility

GAIL emphasized that while the project schedule has been revised, the company remains committed to completing this critical infrastructure project while strictly adhering to all regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements. The delay underscores the importance of environmental clearances in large-scale pipeline projects and GAIL’s efforts to balance operational efficiency with ecological responsibility.
