The Madhya Pradesh cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Tuesday approved several developmental projects, focusing on water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission and major road infrastructure projects across the state.
Boost to Jal Jeevan Mission with Cost Revision
The cabinet approved a 13.55 percent increase in the revised cost of ongoing water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The revised costs will be borne by the state government, ensuring uninterrupted implementation of the programme aimed at providing functional household tap connections in rural areas.
So far, 27,990 single-village tap water schemes worth Rs. 20,765 crore and 148 group water supply schemes worth Rs. 60,786 crore have been sanctioned in Madhya Pradesh. Of these, tap water supply has been completed in 15,947 villages, while work is progressing in 12,043 villages.
A total of 8,358 schemes required revisions, and after detailed technical scrutiny, the cabinet approved a revised expenditure of Rs. 9,026 crore 97 lakh against the original cost of Rs. 6,213 crore 76 lakh. This will enable tap water connections to reach an additional 7 lakh rural families across the state.
Greenfield Road Project between Indore and Ujjain
The cabinet also granted administrative approval for the construction of the Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Road project at a cost of Rs. 2,935 crore 15 lakh under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). The 48.10 km long road will be developed with four lanes, paved shoulders, and two-lane service roads on both sides.
The project includes 34 underpasses, two flyovers, one R.O.T., seven medium bridges, and two large junctions. Enhanced road safety features, junction improvements, and modern signage will also be incorporated. The concession period for construction and maintenance has been fixed at 17 years.
Railway Over-Bridge in Ujjain for Simhastha 2028
In preparation for the upcoming Simhastha-2028, the cabinet cleared the construction of a four-lane Hariphatak railway over-bridge in Ujjain city. The project, sanctioned at Rs. 371 crore 11 lakh, includes a 980-meter-long over-bridge connecting Hariphatak Square to Neelkanth Gate. This will significantly improve traffic flow and connectivity during the massive religious gathering.
Narmadapuram-Timarni Road Development
Another key decision was the approval of Rs. 972 crore 16 lakh for the construction of the Narmadapuram-Timarni road. The 72.18 km long road will have two lanes with paved shoulders and will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model. The project will feature two bypasses, four large bridges, 37 medium bridges, 14 major junctions, and 52 medium construction works. Provisions for road safety, ambulance services, and furniture installations will also be included, with a 17-year concession period for maintenance.
These approvals highlight the state government’s commitment to strengthening both basic amenities like drinking water and modern infrastructure such as roads and bridges, laying the foundation for long-term sustainable development in Madhya Pradesh.
