In a significant move towards promoting religious tourism, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a developmental grant of Rs. 5 crore for enhancing tourism infrastructure in Sambhal. This allocation is aimed at reviving and preserving the rich religious and historical heritage of the region, particularly focusing on ancient pilgrimage sites and age-old wells steeped in mythology.
Pilgrimage Development with a Mythological Vision
According to Tourism Minister Mr. Jaiveer Singh, the decision aligns with the mythological belief that Sambhal will be the birthplace of Lord Vishnu’s 10th incarnation, Kalki. Recognizing the religious significance of this belief, the government is set to implement tourism infrastructure projects across key spiritual sites.
These efforts will include improved amenities such as sanitation, drinking water, lighting, parking, clean toilets, and dedicated tourist guidance centers at major pilgrimage locations.
Shri Kalki Dham Temple: A Landmark in the Making
One of the key highlights of the religious development initiative is the ongoing construction of Shri Kalki Dham Temple in Anchoda Kamboh, Sambhal. As shared by Mr. Singh, this temple is being built with the same iconic pink stone used in the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the Somnath Temple, reinforcing its cultural and religious relevance.
This initiative is poised to attract pilgrims and tourists from across the country, making it a focal point for spiritual tourism in the region.
Tourism on the Rise in Sambhal
Tourism figures reflect Sambhal’s growing appeal. In 2024, the district welcomed 43,58,329 tourists, a testament to its emerging status as a spiritual destination. From January to March 2025 alone, 13,05,970 tourists have already visited the area, indicating strong momentum in tourism growth.
With attractions such as Manokamna Temple, Mata Kaila Devi Temple, and the historic tomb of Tota-Maina built by legendary ruler Prithviraj Chauhan, Sambhal is steadily evolving into a prominent religious tourism hub.
Strategic Vision for Sustainable Growth
The current development plan is not just about attracting visitors but also about ensuring sustainable tourism practices. The inclusion of sanitation and drinking water infrastructure, eco-friendly lighting, and organized parking facilities underlines the government’s commitment to making tourism both people- and environment-friendly.
This funding and development push are in line with the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader vision to position the state as a leader in cultural and religious tourism in India.
