In a major rural development initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government has released Rs. 9.91 crore in untied funds to fast-track infrastructure upgrades across 499 gram panchayats. These funds—granted under the 15th Finance Commission’s untied grant—will empower local bodies to independently plan and execute critical development works based on the needs of the local population.

Roads, Drains, Solar Lights, and Open Gyms on Priority
The funds will be utilised for a variety of development activities, including:
- Construction and repair of roads and drains
- Installation of solar-powered street lights
- Building pavements and platforms
- Provision of open gym equipment
- Improvement of public water sources
This infusion of funds aims to strengthen village-level infrastructure, providing basic amenities to residents and improving their quality of life.
Funds Allocated Based on Population, Work Monitored Digitally
The allocation was made considering the population of each panchayat, ensuring fair and need-based distribution. All 499 gram panchayats, covering nearly 688 revenue villages, will receive funds.
According to District Panchayat Raj Officer Mr. Rajendra Prakash, the funds have already been disbursed. All Pradhans (village heads) will be directed to prioritize essential works such as incomplete road or drain projects, and adhere to the action plans uploaded on the e-Gram Swaraj portal for transparency and monitoring.
Election Year Development Push Ahead of 2026 Panchayat Polls
With panchayat elections scheduled for 2026, this development initiative comes at a crucial time. Village heads, many of whom are preparing to contest again, will now have the financial freedom to complete pending projects and initiate new ones without waiting for approvals or allocations.
The availability of untied funds will also empower villagers to demand visible development work, bringing accountability and people-centric governance to the grassroots level.
A New Chapter for Rural Uttar Pradesh
By enabling local bodies to plan and execute projects according to local needs, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to decentralized governance and rural empowerment. With the funds now available, villagers across these panchayats can expect upgraded infrastructure, better public services, and a more livable rural environment.
