Gandhinagar: Bhupendra Patel on Thursday distributed 40 electric vehicles (EVs) to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state to strengthen practical training for students studying Motor Mechanic and electric vehicle technologies.
During the event, the Chief Minister also inaugurated 50 Dhanvantari Arogya Raths and six Mobile Medical Vans to provide doorstep primary healthcare services to construction workers and labourers.
Electric Vehicles for ITI Training
More than 8,000 trainees enrolled in the Motor Mechanic trade at government ITIs in Gujarat will now receive hands-on training in emerging electric vehicle technologies.
The electric cars were distributed to ITIs from different districts in the presence of Labour, Skill Development and Employment Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya.
The initiative aims to ensure students gain practical knowledge in modern EV systems and stay aligned with the evolving automobile industry.
Preparing Skilled Workforce for the EV Industry
Under the guidance of Bhupendra Patel, the Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department has introduced several measures to upgrade government ITIs with modern technology.
The automobile industry is witnessing a growing demand for professionals skilled in areas such as:
- Battery technology
- Electric powertrains
- Embedded software
By introducing electric cars for training, the state government aims to prepare a skilled workforce capable of meeting the industry’s demand for EV specialists.
Hands-On Learning with Latest Technology
The newly provided electric vehicles will allow trainees to practice on real EV systems, helping them understand the latest technologies in the automobile sector.
This practical exposure will enable ITI students to develop technical expertise and become job-ready, while also encouraging self-reliance in emerging automotive fields.
50 Dhanvantari Arogya Raths Launched for Workers
Along with the EV initiative, the Chief Minister also launched 50 Dhanvantari Arogya Raths and six Mobile Medical Vans to deliver primary healthcare services directly to construction workers and labourers.
These mobile healthcare units are designed to provide doorstep medical assistance and prevent minor health issues from turning into serious illnesses.
Medical Services Provided by the Health Raths
The Dhanvantari Arogya Raths will offer treatment for common health problems such as:
- Fever
- Diarrhoea
- Vomiting
- Skin diseases
- Minor injuries and first aid
They will also provide diagnostic tests including:
- Blood tests
- Urine tests
- Blood sugar testing
- Malaria diagnosis
In addition, the units will deliver primary healthcare for children and pregnant women, along with free medicines when required.
Expanded Health Coverage Across Gujarat
Currently, the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board operates 154 Dhanvantari Health Raths, while the Gujarat Labour Welfare Board runs 25 Mobile Medical Vans across the state.
With the addition of 50 new Dhanvantari Arogya Raths and six Mobile Medical Vans, the total operational fleet has expanded to:
- 206 Dhanvantari Arogya Raths
- 31 Mobile Medical Vans
These services now cover 34 districts of Gujarat, significantly improving healthcare access for workers and their families.
Senior Officials Attend the Event
The event in Gandhinagar was attended by several senior officials, including Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department Secretary Lochan Sehra, Director of Employment and Training Nitin Sangwan, Labour Commissioner Lakhani, and other government representatives.
The initiatives reflect the Gujarat government’s commitment to skill development, modern industrial training, and improved healthcare services for workers across the state.
