Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Friday appointed five individuals as State Information Commissioners, a move aimed at strengthening the functioning of the State Information Commission, which plays a critical role in upholding transparency and the Right to Information (RTI) Act in the state.
According to an official order issued by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, the following individuals have been appointed to the Commission:
- Amarjit Singh, retired Haryana Civil Service (HCS) officer
- Karamvir Saini, former Congress leader who joined the BJP in 2019
- Neeta Khera, former member of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC), from Ambala
- Priyanka Dhopra, BJP functionary from Bhiwani
- Sanjay Madaan, social and political figure from Karnal
The appointments will formally take effect after the appointees are administered the oath of office by the Governor of Haryana.
Sources indicate that former Haryana Chief Secretary T.V.S.N. Prasad is likely to be appointed as the State Chief Information Commissioner, a position that remains vacant.
The State Information Commission is tasked with ensuring that citizens can access government-held information in a timely manner under the RTI Act, 2005. The appointments come amid rising demand for faster resolution of pending RTI appeals and complaints.
This development is expected to improve the functioning of the Commission and expedite transparency-related proceedings in the state.
