The Haryana government relieved senior IAS officer V Umashankar (IAS: 1993: HY) to enable him to join the Government of India as Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Previously, Umashankar served as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Haryana, overseeing the CM Window, and held roles as Additional Chief Secretary for both the Information, Public Relations, Languages, and Culture Department and the Foreign Cooperation Department.

This transfer comes in the wake of major reshuffles within the central bureaucracy, announced on October 19, which saw seven Secretary-level appointments across various Ministries and Departments. V Umashankar’s appointment as Secretary, MoRTH, is part of this broader effort to bolster leadership within central ministries.
