In a unique initiative aimed at empowering students in government schools, the Haryana government has decided to involve IAS, IPS, and HCS officers in mentoring children for competitive examinations. Under this program, officers across all districts will dedicate four days a month to teaching students in four government schools, providing guidance on education and career opportunities.
State Education Minister Kanwar Pal announced the move on Monday, stating that the initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance the quality of education in state-run schools. A formal letter has been issued to all district officials seeking their cooperation in implementing the program.
“Apart from academic guidance, students will also be educated on traffic rules and other essential life skills,” the minister told reporters. He emphasized that no external interference, even from close relatives, would be tolerated in the Directorate of Education, ensuring transparency in administrative decisions.
Focus on Academic Excellence & Infrastructure
The minister highlighted that the state government has been working relentlessly to improve both infrastructure and educational outcomes in government schools. These efforts have already borne fruit, with the Haryana School Education Board recording excellent results in Class X and XII board examinations this year.
Haryana has also emerged as a pioneer in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with tailored courses being designed to align with the policy’s objectives. “This will yield long-term benefits, equipping students with the skills needed for future challenges,” the minister added.
Super 100 Program & Girl Education
The ‘Super 100’ program, aimed at helping economically disadvantaged students prepare for prestigious engineering entrance exams, has shown remarkable success. This year, 72 students from government schools cleared the JEE Advanced, with 24 of them being girls. “This reflects our commitment to empowering girls through education,” the minister said.
To foster entrepreneurship, the state is revising the syllabus for Classes 10 to 12, ensuring students have practical knowledge to pursue careers after schooling. Additionally, the government is collaborating with gram panchayats to improve sanitation facilities in rural schools during the summer break.
Teachers are also conducting door-to-door campaigns to boost enrollment in government schools, with panchayats playing a supportive role. “We are determined to make government schools the first choice for parents and students,” the minister asserted.
This initiative marks another step in Haryana’s mission to bridge the gap between government and private education while nurturing future leaders.
