New Delhi: The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday issued a series of central appointment orders, clearing the names of three senior bureaucrats for significant roles in key government departments. The appointments are part of the Central Staffing Scheme and involve IAS and IRS officers from different cadres.
Tariq Thomas Appointed Director in Department of Commerce
Mr Thomas (IAS:2011:AGMUT), currently serving as Secretary of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), has been appointed as Director in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
His selection comes following a recommendation by the Ministry of Home Affairs for central deputation.
As per the DoPT order, Thomas will serve a tenure of five years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
His appointment falls under the Central Staffing Scheme, a policy mechanism used for assigning bureaucrats to central ministries and departments.
Ms Nisha Appointed Private Secretary to MoS for Youth Affairs & Sports
In another key move, Ms Nisha (IAS:2015:UP) has been appointed as Private Secretary to Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse.
The appointment is for a tenure of five years or co-terminus with the Minister’s tenure, whichever comes first.
Nisha will serve in the role at the Deputy Secretary level.
She is currently posted in her cadre as Mission Director, National Ayush Mission, Uttar Pradesh.
Her experience in public health and mission-oriented governance is expected to bring value to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, particularly in initiatives intersecting with wellness, youth development, and policy outreach.
IRS Davinder Chodha Joins Government e-Marketplace (GeM)
In a separate posting, Mr Chodha (IRS IT:2015) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), under the Department of Commerce.
His tenure has been fixed for four years, ending on March 14, 2028.
The appointment is aimed at strengthening the digital procurement platform’s administrative and operational leadership.
Chodha’s expertise in financial systems and tax administration is expected to contribute to GeM’s ongoing reforms, transparency initiatives, and expansion of government procurement efficiency.
