New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Communications Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani reviewed the performance of India Post and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) on Tuesday. The discussions focused on digital integration, customer convenience, and expanding access to affordable services across the country.
Strengthening Coordination for Citizens’ Benefit
Dr. Pemmasani underscored the need for closer coordination between India Post and IPPB to ensure citizens in remote areas continue to receive reliable doorstep services. He emphasized that trust, financial inclusion, and last-mile connectivity remain the key priorities of the Ministry.
Performance and Growth of IPPB
Officials informed the Minister that IPPB has achieved strong growth in recent years. The Bank now serves over 12 crore customers with deposits nearing ₹20,000 crore. In FY 2024-25, IPPB reported revenues of ₹2,200 crore and a profit of ₹134 crore, recording a compound annual growth rate of 60–70% over the past two years.
Despite sectoral challenges, IPPB has sustained this growth with a lean workforce of just 1,250 employees, supported by India Post’s vast network.
Expanding Credit Access in Rural India
The review highlighted IPPB’s expanding role in extending credit to rural and underbanked areas. The Bank has partnered with HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Aditya Birla Capital Finance, and Aadhaar Housing Finance to provide loans for housing, personal needs, agriculture, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), gold, tractors, and commercial vehicles.
In June 2025 alone, over 150 loans worth ₹7 crore were disbursed. Officials said new small-ticket digital credit products are also being designed to support micro-entrepreneurs and rural businesses.
Digital and Postal Integration
The Minister appreciated joint efforts of India Post and IPPB in leveraging a network of 1.64 lakh post offices and access points, supported by Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS). The institutions now provide a range of services, including utility bill payments, money transfers, e-KYCs for Post Office Savings Bank accounts, and Digital Life Certificates (DLC) for pensioners.
“These services ensure that even the most remote households in India can access both banking and postal facilities without travelling long distances,” Dr. Pemmasani said.
Roadmap for the Future
Officials informed the Minister that India Post and IPPB are working to evolve into a stronger, digitally driven financial services provider. By expanding partnerships, introducing new products, and leveraging their unmatched reach, the two institutions aim to make postal and banking solutions universally accessible.
