New Delhi, 30 June 2025 — General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, embarked today on a four-day official visit to Bhutan. The trip aims to reinforce and expand the long-standing defence partnership between the two nations.
Meetings with Bhutan’s Leadership and Military Command
General Dwivedi will meet with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan. He is also slated to hold discussions with Lieutenant General Batoo Tshering, Chief of Operations, Royal Bhutan Army. These high-level talks are expected to explore joint training, strategic planning, and defence coordination.

Engaging India’s Diplomatic and Engineering Presence
During his visit, the Army Chief will engage with senior members from the Indian Embassy, the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT), and Project DANTAK—the Border Roads Organisation’s key infrastructure initiative in Bhutan. These interactions highlight the multifaceted nature of India’s engagement, ranging from diplomacy and training to engineering and logistics.
A Symbol of Trust and Shared Security
The visit underscores the depth of India–Bhutan relations. It reaffirms India’s steadfast commitment to its Himalayan neighbour and their shared defence objectives. Through regular high-level exchanges, both nations continue to nurture a trusted and enduring partnership.
