Indian Army Rescues Over 50 Villagers, Including Infant, in Devipura Flood Operations

Champawat, Uttarakhand: On September 1, 2025, the Indian Army carried out a swift rescue mission in flood-affected Devipura village of Champawat district, evacuating over 50 stranded residents, including a 12-day-old infant.

Swift Response in Kumaon Region

Heavy rains triggered flash floods across the Kumaon region, cutting off several villages in Champawat. Devipura was among the worst affected, with families trapped amid rising waters. Responding to urgent calls, Army rescue teams under Surya Command reached the village and launched immediate evacuation operations.

Soldiers used boats and specialized rescue equipment to move stranded residents to safety. Among those rescued was a newborn infant, whose evacuation highlighted the critical nature of the operation.

Civil-Military Coordination on the Ground

The relief efforts drew appreciation from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who visited the site and interacted with villagers. He praised the Indian Army’s rapid deployment and professionalism in saving lives under challenging conditions.

Local administration and police coordinated closely with Army teams to ensure smooth evacuation and safe relocation of affected families. Relief camps were set up to provide food, water, and medical aid to the rescued villagers.

Army’s Humanitarian Role in Natural Disasters

The Indian Army has consistently played a frontline role in disaster relief across Uttarakhand, a state prone to floods and landslides. Operations in Devipura once again underscored the Army’s humanitarian commitment, going beyond security duties to protect lives in vulnerable regions.

The mission not only secured immediate safety but also strengthened the trust of local communities in the Army’s readiness to stand by civilians during crises.
