Ferozepur/Srinagar/New Delhi: The Indian Army has launched large-scale humanitarian relief under Operation Rahat after heavy monsoon rains triggered dangerous flood conditions in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. Troops from the Golden Arrow Division and Chinar Corps worked shoulder-to-shoulder with civilians, local authorities, and disaster response teams to prevent loss of lives and property.
Punjab: Golden Arrow Division Prevents Breach in Sutlej Embankments
In Rukhnewala Kalan, Ferozepur, a sudden surge in the Sutlej River threatened to breach embankments and submerge homes. Acting swiftly, soldiers of the Golden Arrow Division joined villagers in a tireless effort to reinforce the riverbanks.
The joint operation, carried out under continuous rainfall, prevented large-scale flooding and averted disaster. The Army described the effort as a living example of courage, unity, and the enduring bond between soldiers and citizens.

Kashmir: Chinar Corps Rescues Families from Rising Jhelum Waters
On 4 September 2025, heavy rainfall swelled the Jhelum River, leading to flooding near Zenipora village in Pampore. Soldiers of the Chinar Corps, working alongside the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local administration, immediately mobilised boats, relief materials, and medical teams.
Several families were evacuated to safer locations, with food, water, and medical aid provided on-site. The coordinated response ensured timely relief and prevented casualties despite the worsening weather.
Army’s Dual Role: Defending Borders and Supporting Citizens
Operation Rahat once again highlighted the Indian Army’s dual responsibility safeguarding the nation’s frontiers while standing by citizens during natural calamities. The quick action in Punjab and Kashmir demonstrated the Army’s preparedness and its deep integration with local communities in times of crisis.
