Kanpur, 29 June 2025 — Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth paid a high-level visit to the Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), a premier DRDO lab based in Kanpur. The Minister lauded the lab’s contribution to India’s strategic edge, especially highlighting its indigenous technologies used effectively during Operation Sindoor.
Field-Proven Technologies Developed In-House
During his address, Shri Seth commended several indigenous innovations that have been successfully deployed in the field:
- Level‑6 Bullet-Proof Jackets designed to offer advanced protection to soldiers
- Naphthyl Fuel powering the BrahMos supersonic missile
- High-Pressure Polymeric Membranes installed in Indian Coast Guard vessels
- Silicon Carbide Fibre for enhanced structural performance
- CBRN Protective Suits built using activated carbon fabric
- A wide range of stealth materials developed to reduce visibility on modern battlefields
He described these achievements as critical milestones in India’s journey toward defence self-reliance.
DMSRDE Leads in Technology Transfer
The Minister pointed out that DMSRDE currently holds the distinction of leading all DRDO labs in technology transfers over the last two years. This progress, he said, has been accelerated by the lab’s active engagement with private industry and academic institutions.
He further remarked that such collaborative efforts are integral to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, where innovation and indigenisation will drive national progress.
Innovation Showcase Reflects Broad Technical Capabilities
As part of the visit, Shri Seth toured an exhibition showcasing DMSRDE’s wide spectrum of defence-focused R&D. Displayed innovations included:
- Advanced ceramics and composites
- Stealth and camouflage coating systems
- Nanomaterials and specialty polymers
- Technical textiles for personal protection
- Rubber products, fuels, and high-grade lubricants
These developments support modern warfare requirements and signal India’s growing capability in critical materials science.
Honouring Legacy and Symbolising Growth
In a solemn gesture, Shri Seth laid a wreath at the statue of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, honouring the missile icon’s legacy and connection to DRDO. The visit concluded with a tree plantation on the premises, symbolising sustainable growth and the lab’s ongoing mission in defence innovation.
He was accompanied by Dr. R.V. Hara Prasad, Director General (Naval Systems & Materials), and senior officials from DRDO. The Director of DMSRDE also gave a comprehensive presentation on the lab’s vision, research roadmap, and core priorities.
Why This Visit Matters
This visit by Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth reaffirms the government’s trust in DRDO’s indigenous capabilities. DMSRDE’s contributions—ranging from personal protection systems to critical missile fuel—demonstrate how home-grown defence innovation is no longer aspirational but operational.
With growing partnerships, successful technology transfers, and field-proven systems, DMSRDE is positioned as a cornerstone in India’s pursuit of strategic autonomy.
