Indore: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav flagged off 50 new electric AC buses from the Brilliant Convention Centre on Thursday, marking a major push toward sustainable and eco-friendly public transport in the city.
Strengthening Public Transport & Last-Mile Connectivity
The newly introduced buses will serve key routes across Indore, including:
- Rajwada ⇄ Tejaji Nagar (22 buses)
- Aurobindo Hospital ⇄ Mhow Naka (15 buses)
- Apollo DB City ⇄ Pitru Parvat (4 buses)
- Rajiv Gandhi Square ⇄ Palash Parisar Silicon City (4 buses)
- CAT Square ⇄ California City (5 buses)
Each bus has a daily operating capacity of 180 km on a single or opportunity charge, ensuring reliable last-mile connectivity for commuters.
Investment & Operational Model
With each bus costing ₹1.2 crore, the total investment in the project stands at ₹60 crore. The fleet will be managed under a net cost model, supported by 40% Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under the AMRUT scheme.
Green Impact & Modern Features
The transition from diesel to electric buses is expected to reduce 2.268 million kg of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The buses come equipped with:
- Digital ticketing & automatic fare collection
- GPS tracking and CCTV cameras
- Panic buttons & public announcement systems
- Passenger information display systems
Indore’s Leadership in Eco-Friendly Transport
Currently, Indore operates 70 electric buses as part of its 550-bus fleet, run by Atal Indore City Transport Services Ltd (AICTSL), catering to over 2 lakh passengers daily. With this addition, Indore further cements its position as a model city for sustainable urban transport.
The event was attended by Members of Parliament, MLAs, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, AICTSL officials, and senior administrative officers, reflecting strong political and institutional support for green mobility.
