New Delhi: As part of the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM) 5.0, the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has identified 11,100 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) across India as key outdoor cleaning sites. This initiative was a crucial part of the campaign’s preparatory phase, which concluded on 30th September 2025. The drive aims to promote Swachhata (cleanliness) and improve the overall environment around these public medicine outlets, which play a vital role in providing affordable generic medicines to the public.
Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) Champions the Cause
The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), is spearheading the cleanliness efforts in line with guidelines from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). The PMBI’s campaign covers over 11,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras, ensuring that these key healthcare access points maintain hygienic and welcoming environments for citizens.
Focus on Disposal of Pending Matters and Enhanced Governance
Beyond cleanliness, the Department of Pharmaceuticals is proactively addressing multiple pending matters, including references from Members of Parliament (MPs), the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), state government communications, parliamentary assurances, inter-ministerial references, and public grievances and appeals. This concentrated effort aims to expedite government processes and enhance transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
Optimizing Workspace Through Conversion of Idle Spaces
In a significant move to boost efficiency, the department is focusing on the effective utilization of workspace. Idle or underutilized office areas are being transformed into functional spaces such as canteens, indoor recreation zones, and crèches to improve employee welfare and productivity. Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL) has taken a pioneering step by planning to reclaim 15,000 sq. ft. of office space under the SCDPM 5.0 initiative.
E-Waste Disposal Generating Revenue and Promoting Sustainability
The department’s agencies are also intensively working on the identification and disposal of e-waste and scrap materials accumulated over time. This process is expected to generate approximately ₹16 lakh in revenue, reflecting a strong commitment to environmentally sustainable practices and efficient resource management.
Showcasing Best Practices for Ease of Doing Business and Citizen-Centric Governance
In addition to these initiatives, the Department of Pharmaceuticals has compiled 12 best practices across various domains aimed at promoting ease of doing business, citizen-centric governance, and environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly initiatives. These best practices are expected to serve as a model for other departments and organizations seeking to improve operational efficiency and public service quality.
