Ranchi/New Delhi: In a bid to boost tourism and showcase its rich cultural and natural heritage, the Hemant Soren led Jharkhand government has launched the Influencer Engagement Programme 2025. This innovative initiative offers financial incentives and extensive support to social media content creators who promote the state’s diverse tourist destinations to a global audience.
Scheme Launched on World Tourism Day to Boost Sustainable Tourism
The program was officially announced on World Tourism Day, September 27, aligning with the global theme of Tourism and Sustainable Transformation. The government aims to leverage authentic digital storytelling to elevate Jharkhand’s profile and attract visitors, while fostering sustainable economic growth for local communities.
“Johar Influencers” Initiative Targets Modern Digital Storytellers
Named after the traditional tribal greeting “Johar,” the initiative invites influencers across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) to showcase Jharkhand’s forests, waterfalls, tribal cuisine, handicrafts, festivals, and offbeat tourist spots. This program complements conventional tourism campaigns by engaging creative young voices who have the power to reach millions online.
Eligibility and Incentives for Content Creators
Eligible influencers include travel vloggers, bloggers, food and culture enthusiasts, and short-video makers actively creating content on the designated social media platforms. Participants are divided into four categories based on their reach: nano, micro, macro, and mega influencers.
Financial honorariums range from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, paid quarterly and dependent on factors such as audience size, content quality, creativity, and engagement metrics like views and likes. This tiered structure encourages consistent high-quality promotion of Jharkhand’s attractions.
Beyond Money: Travel Perks and Government Support
Selected influencers will also benefit from non-monetary perks, including two days of free accommodation at state-run hotels, government-arranged travel facilities, and assistance from the Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDCL) and forest and eco-tourism departments.
The program aims to empower rural youth by providing employment and monetisation opportunities, positioning them as cultural ambassadors who can promote local traditions and heritage on digital platforms.
Highlighting Jharkhand’s 528 Tourist Destinations
Jharkhand boasts an impressive 528 identified tourist sites, spanning natural landscapes, wildlife sanctuaries, spiritual hubs, and historical landmarks. Influencers are encouraged to explore and promote sites such as:
- The serene hills of Netarhat
- Hazaribagh and Betla National Parks
- Baidyanath Dham and Rajrappa Temple
- Trikut Hills in Deoghar
- Historic Maluti Temples
- Parasnath Hills and Lugu Buru
- The Anglo-Indian town of McCluskieganj
Tribal festivals like Sarhul, Karma, and Sohrai are also emphasized as vital cultural themes to be highlighted through engaging content.
A Step Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism
Officials believe this influencer-led approach will significantly boost visitor numbers while supporting local economies and preserving Jharkhand’s cultural and environmental heritage. By tapping into the creativity and reach of digital content creators, the state aims to position itself as a must-visit destination for travelers both in India and abroad.
