Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has announced plans to expand micro-lift irrigation projects under the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) from 10 to 50 blocks next year. The move aims to strengthen women-led livelihood initiatives and enhance agricultural productivity across the state.
Scaling Up Irrigation for Improved Horticulture
Officials noted that micro-lift irrigation support has significantly improved horticulture output in the pilot blocks. Several self-help group (SHG) members have reported higher incomes as a direct result of better irrigation facilities.
The governing body of JSLPS, chaired by Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh in Ranchi, emphasized that scaling up these projects will benefit more women farmers and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.

Linking Women’s Groups to Government Supply Chains
In addition to irrigation support, the state government plans to connect SHG women directly to government supply chains. Products such as:
- Sanitary napkins
- School bags and notebooks
- Mid-day meal materials
- Milk and vegetables
will be sourced from women’s groups, providing stable income opportunities and encouraging entrepreneurship among rural women.
Promoting Women-Led Economic Empowerment
The expansion of micro-lift irrigation projects, combined with supply chain integration, is expected to empower women financially, strengthen SHGs, and contribute to rural development. Government officials highlighted that such initiatives align with Jharkhand’s broader goals of sustainable agriculture and inclusive growth.
