After nearly a year of waiting, Palamu Division has finally got a new Commissioner. The Jharkhand government has appointed IAS officer Kumud Sahay as the Divisional Commissioner of Palamu. She assumed charge on Thursday evening.
The post had been vacant since January 31, 2025. Kumud Sahay, a 2012-batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, is now the 48th Commissioner of the division. She brings with her wide administrative experience and a strong background in governance.
Speaking after taking charge, Sahay said that divisional offices and the public would work together to ensure effective implementation of government schemes. She stressed that the goal is to ensure maximum benefit reaches the people.
FOCUS ON DEVELOPMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE EFFICIENCY
As Commissioner, Sahay will oversee key sectors such as revenue collection, land acquisition, welfare schemes, and sports development. Ensuring timely execution of projects and strengthening administrative coordination will be among her top priorities.
Kumud Sahay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and is known for her work in statistics and data-driven governance. In June 2025, during a major administrative reshuffle, she was appointed Director of the Directorate of Statistics in Jharkhand. In that role, she contributed to data collection, analysis, and policy evaluation, helping measure the effectiveness of government schemes.
Earlier, in March 2024, she served as Deputy Commissioner of Jamtara district. During her tenure, she actively supported agricultural development and welfare programs. She inspected strawberry and pea cultivation projects and directed officials to provide proper facilities to farmers.
With her appointment, expectations are high in Palamu Division. Her focus on transparency, structured administration, and timely execution of development projects is expected to bring renewed momentum to the region’s governance framework.
