The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), functioning under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, disbursed margin money subsidy amounting to Rs. 300 crore to 8,794 beneficiaries across the country under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The disbursement, corresponding to sanctioned loans worth approximately Rs. 884 crore, was carried out virtually during a national event organized on Tuesday at KVIC’s Central Office in Mumbai.

KVIC Chairman Mr. Manoj Kumar released the subsidy through virtual mode and emphasized the transformative impact of PMEGP on youth employment and entrepreneurship. He stated, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, PMEGP has laid a strong foundation of self-employment in the country. Khadi and Village Industries is now more than a product—it embodies the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” KVIC CEO Ms. Roop Rashi and other senior officials were also present at the event.
The nationwide campaign witnessed active participation from all six zones. The South Zone, covering Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, received Rs. 80.26 crore in subsidy for 2,445 projects. The Central Zone (Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand) saw disbursal of Rs. 91.13 crore for 2,366 projects. In the East and Northeast, Rs. 62.68 crore was provided for 2,167 projects across Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura.
The Northern region (Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Rajasthan) accounted for Rs. 41.80 crore in subsidy for 1,320 projects, while the Western Zone (Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa) received Rs. 24.12 crore for 496 projects. The initiative marked a significant stride toward self-employment and rural empowerment across both urban and rural areas.
Since its inception, PMEGP has emerged as a flagship initiative supporting entrepreneurship and self-reliance. As of FY 2024–25, the scheme has facilitated the establishment of 10,18,185 micro-enterprises across India, backed by government-sanctioned loans of Rs. 73,348.39 crore and margin money subsidy totalling Rs. 27,166.07 crore. Over 90 lakh people have received direct and indirect employment through the scheme, solidifying its place as one of India’s most impactful self-employment programs.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory body formed in April 1957 by the Government of India, under the Act of Parliament, ‘Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act of 1956’. It is an apex organisation under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with regard to khadi and village industries within India, which seeks to – “plan, promote, facilitate, organise and assist in the establishment and development of khadi and village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary.”
PMEGP
The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a flagship credit-linked subsidy scheme launched by the Government of India to promote self-employment through the establishment of micro-enterprises in both rural and urban areas. Implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), PMEGP has created over 10 lakh enterprises and generated employment for more than 90 lakh individuals across the country.
