Bhopal: In a major relief for farmers, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced a toll tax exemption for combine harvesters as part of the Kisan Kalyan Varsh (Farmer Welfare Year) 2026. The decision aims to reduce agricultural costs and increase farmers’ income. Alongside this, the state government also approved several key road infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity and promote regional development.
Toll Tax Exemption on Combine Harvesters: Major Relief for Farmers
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted that the government is fully committed to the welfare of farmers and aims to achieve the goal of “Samruddh Kisan – Samruddh Pradesh” (Prosperous Farmer – Prosperous State).
Under the new decision, combine harvesters used for crop harvesting will now be exempt from toll charges at all toll plazas managed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC).
Dr. Yadav said, “Combine harvesters are essential agricultural machinery for harvesting crops. Exemption from toll tax will significantly reduce transportation costs, providing direct financial benefits to farmers.”
Reduced Farming Costs and Higher Farmer Income
The toll exemption will allow farmers to transport combine harvesters more economically from one location to another. This reduction in operational cost will lower the overall harvesting expenses, enabling farmers to get better returns on their produce. Agricultural experts believe that this step will enhance profitability for farmers and encourage the adoption of modern farming machinery across the state.
Key Decisions Taken in the MPRDC Board Meeting
The toll exemption and other developmental initiatives were approved during a board meeting of the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav at Samatva Bhawan (CM Residence), Bhopal. The meeting was attended by Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, and other senior officials.
Approval of Greenfield Road Projects
During the meeting, two major road projects were approved:
- Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Road Project
- Ujjain-Javra Greenfield Road Project
Both projects will be developed under a non-access controlled model, improving traffic management and ensuring smoother travel between key cities.
Western Bhopal Bypass Receives New Alignment Approval
The board also approved a revised alignment for the Western Bhopal Bypass, granting theoretical clearance for its construction. This project is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Bhopal and improve regional connectivity significantly.
Discussions on Administrative and Financial Matters
In addition to infrastructure projects, the meeting reviewed annual reports and other managerial matters. Several critical decisions were taken to accelerate the development of state infrastructure and ensure efficient governance.
Boosting Farmer Welfare and State Development
The toll exemption for combine harvesters, along with approval for major road projects, reflects the Madhya Pradesh government’s commitment to increasing farmers’ income and strengthening state infrastructure. These initiatives are expected to support the state’s broader goal of sustainable development while empowering the agricultural community.
