In a significant move to enhance transparency and outreach, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has rolled out a new facility enabling direct email alerts to educational and professional institutions about upcoming UPSC recruitment advertisements relevant to their fields.
The initiative is expected to streamline dissemination of recruitment information and improve participation from qualified candidates across the country.
Recruitment Information, Now Delivered to Your Inbox
UPSC regularly undertakes recruitment for Group A and Group B gazetted posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Union Territories. These posts often require specialized qualifications ranging from technical and legal to teaching and finance-related expertise.
To ensure eligible candidates receive timely and accurate information, the Commission has introduced an institutional email alert service that delivers updates on relevant job openings directly to universities, recognized associations, and professional bodies.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chairman, UPSC said:
“Apart from our regular examinations, UPSC receives recruitment requests from various Ministries and Departments, for various Government positions. In order to streamline and expedite the process, we are ensuring that the requests are received well in advance within a 3-month window, from January to March period, so that the process is planned in a better manner by clubbing similar recruitment cases and holding their common tests to complete the recruitment drive in a time-bound manner.”
Addressing Low Application Response & Vacancies
Dr. Kumar also pointed to disparities in the number of applications received across different recruitment cases. Many posts have had to be scrapped or left vacant due to the lack of qualified applicants.
“In the past, some disparities were observed, in the number of applications we receive for different posts. During the scrutiny of cases, sometimes the case becomes infructuous as no suitable applicant meeting the Recruitment Rules criteria is found. Many cases receive disproportionately fewer applications. Sometimes the posts remained vacant or become infructuous during the interview stage as suitable candidates are not found by the Interview Board,” he said.
To tackle this issue, UPSC’s new outreach measures aim to prevent qualified candidates from missing opportunities due to lack of awareness.
“We, at UPSC, want to ensure that merit is not left undiscovered simply due to lack of information,” Dr. Kumar added.
Planned Outreach Measures
As part of the new recruitment communication strategy, the Commission has initiated the following steps:
- Email alerts will be sent to universities, institutions, associations, and professional/recognized bodies.
- Alerts will also be sent, on request, to other institutions by writing to: oracell-upsc[at]gov[dot]in
- Indenting Ministries and Departments will be encouraged to publicize vacancies on their own websites and social platforms.
- Recruitment updates will continue to be shared on LinkedIn, with additional plans to use Public Broadcaster services.
- UPSC is also considering enabling RSS feeds on its website for real-time update syndication.
Institutions wishing to subscribe to the email alert service may send a request to ora-upsc[at]gov[dot]in with the subject line: “Subscription Request – UPSC Recruitment Alerts”.
