Bhopal: In a significant move aimed at boosting infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agricultural support, the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, approved several key projects on Monday. The decisions are expected to enhance road connectivity, strengthen public health and nutrition schemes, and empower farmers with advanced weather monitoring systems.
Four-Laning of Barwaha-Dhamnod Road
The Cabinet granted administrative approval of ₹2,508.21 crore for converting the Barwaha-Dhamnod road into a 4-lane highway with paved shoulders. Stretching 62.79 kilometers, the project includes the construction of 10 bypasses, 5 major bridges, 23 medium bridges, 12 flyovers/underpasses, 7 large junctions, and 56 medium junctions.
The road will be constructed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), with 40% of the cost borne by the state government and the remaining 60% to be paid in installments over 15 years. Toll collection will be managed by the state government. The project, executed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Authority (MPRDA), will enhance connectivity between the Narmada region and Malwa, boosting trade and commerce in the area.
Continuation of Nutrition and Anganwadi Schemes
The Cabinet approved the extension of the Saksham Anganwadi and Nutrition 2.0 scheme for the next five years (2026-27 to 2030-31). The scheme will continue providing supplementary nutrition, pre-school education, Anganwadi infrastructure development, nutrition campaigns, adolescent girl programs, and training for Anganwadi workers.
Implemented across 97,882 Anganwadi centers under 453 child development projects in 55 districts, the scheme aims to strengthen health, nutrition, and education services for women and children in Madhya Pradesh.
Jabalpur Law University Expansion
For the second phase of the Madhya Pradesh Dharmashastra National Law University in Jabalpur, the Cabinet approved ₹197.13 crore. The phase will include the construction of administrative and academic buildings, Vice-Chancellor and Registrar residences, 12 multi-story staff quarters, and a campus boundary wall. The university currently has 720 students, with total sanctioned seats of 1,272.
Advanced Weather Monitoring for Farmers
Under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme, the Cabinet approved the implementation of the WINDS (Weather Information Network Data System) program, with a total outlay of ₹434.58 crore. The program will establish automatic weather stations in every tehsil and automatic rain gauges in every Gram Panchayat, enabling accurate weather tracking, faster crop insurance claim processing, and transparent data collection. Around ₹147.75 crore of the expenditure will be borne by the state government. All data will be available on a digital platform, aiding farmers in crop planning and insurance assessments.
Boost to Urban Transport and Medical Education
PWD Minister Rakesh Singh highlighted the recent inauguration of metro services in Bhopal and Indore, which will improve urban mobility and reduce pollution. He also stated that Union Health Minister JP Nadda will inaugurate new medical colleges in Dhar and Betul on December 23, enhancing healthcare services and medical education opportunities for local youth.
Upcoming Investments and MP Growth Conclave
Minister Singh also informed about upcoming visits by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Gwalior and Rewa. On December 25, he will participate in the MP Growth Conclave, which will include groundbreaking ceremonies for projects worth around ₹2 lakh crore, potentially driving large-scale industrial investments and creating significant employment opportunities in the state.
