BHOPAL — In a heartwarming gesture that left sanitation workers overwhelmed, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav declared that the world would soon learn cleanliness practices from India, particularly from Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking at the 5th State-Level Cleanliness Awards and Workshop ‘Swachhata Samagra Samaroh’ held at Ravindra Bhawan, the Chief Minister announced a massive ₹7,000 crore development package for urban bodies across the state.
₹7000 Crore Cleanliness Package: Eight MP Cities Shine in National Cleanliness Rankings
The awards ceremony recognized exceptional cleanliness achievements by cities including Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Dewas, Shahganj, and Budni in Swachh Survekshan-2024.
Dr. Yadav attributed this transformation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. “When the Prime Minister first spoke about cleanliness from the Red Fort after taking oath, he transformed the entire nation’s mindset toward sanitation,” the Chief Minister said.
Indore has consistently maintained its position as India’s cleanest city, setting new benchmarks that other urban centers aspire to achieve.
Smaller Districts Create Big Impact
In a remarkable achievement, six smaller districts including Mandla and Tikamgarh have also secured prominent positions in the cleanliness rankings.
This demonstrates that the sanitation revolution is not limited to major urban centers but has permeated across the state.
The government distributed 64 awards across various cleanliness categories, recognizing both public representatives and frontline sanitation workers who form the backbone of this cleanliness movement.
₹22,500 Crore Diwali Gift for Urban Development
Describing the announcements as a “Diwali gift” worth ₹22,500 crore, CM Yadav outlined ambitious infrastructure plans:
- ₹10,000 crore under the Namami Narmade scheme
- ₹7,000 crore package under Amrit-2 scheme
- ₹5,000 crore for the new Chief Minister Infrastructure Scheme
“Projects worth approximately ₹20,000 crore will take shape over the next three years,” the Chief Minister announced, drawing enthusiastic applause from the gathering.
War-Footing Preparations for Simhasth 2028
CM Yadav revealed that Madhya Pradesh is undertaking massive preparations for Simhasth-2028 in Ujjain, calling it not just a city event but “the world’s largest religious fair.”
“Life originated from water on Earth, which is why bathing in holy rivers during events like Simhasth holds immense significance,” he explained. “The world will learn from us how to organize Kumbh.”
The state government has allocated over ₹18,840 crore for infrastructure development ahead of this mega spiritual gathering, which is expected to attract millions of devotees from across the globe.
₹7000 Crore Cleanliness Package : Commitment to Eliminate Legacy Waste
Dr. Yadav announced the government’s firm commitment to eliminating legacy waste from all cities. “We will not just maintain our cleanliness standards but continuously raise them,” he declared.

A special cleanliness fortnight was organized from September 17 to October 2 across urban bodies, where sanitation workers played a pivotal role in the intensive cleaning drives.

State Minister Pratima Bagri emphasized that cleanliness extends beyond physical surroundings. “Along with cleanliness around us, we need mental cleanliness too,” she stated.
Bagri highlighted Indore’s consistent performance and expressed the vision to replicate this success across all cities in Madhya Pradesh. “We need to clean our rivers and ponds along with our streets,” she added, emphasizing environmental consciousness.
Eight Years of Setting New Standards
Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Dubey noted that Madhya Pradesh has been continuously raising cleanliness benchmarks for eight years. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created healthy competition for cleanliness, and we have emerged as pioneers,” he said.
Dubey revealed ambitious plans to increase door-to-door garbage collection and remove accumulated waste from approximately 40 urban bodies across the state.
Sanitation Workers: Unsung Heroes
The recognition ceremony brought tears to the eyes of many sanitation workers who rarely receive public acknowledgment for their crucial work.

The Swachh Survekshan, launched as the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey, has created competitive spirit among cities to improve their sanitation infrastructure and waste management systems.
