Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has approved the continuation of the Chief Minister Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme (CMUIDS) until the financial year 2026-27, with an additional allocation of ₹500 crore to support urban development initiatives across the state. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav in the committee hall of the State Assembly on Tuesday.
Urban Development Projects Get a Boost
Under the CMUIDS, a total of 1,062 projects worth ₹1,070 crore have been sanctioned to date. Of these, 325 projects have been successfully completed, while 407 are currently under progress, and 330 are in the DPR approval or tendering stage. The scheme focuses on improving urban infrastructure, including projects such as:
- Safe and reliable drinking water supply
- Modern sanitation systems
- Installation of street lighting
- Construction and repair of roads and drainage systems
- Development of crematoriums, community halls, shelters, and playgrounds
The continuation of the scheme, with an additional ₹500 crore, will ensure that ongoing and upcoming urban infrastructure projects receive timely funding and execution support.
Funding for Rural Connectivity Projects Approved
The cabinet also approved additional funding to complete pending works under the Madhya Pradesh Rural Connectivity External Development Scheme. Earlier, ₹12.32 crore had been sanctioned for these projects, and an additional ₹9.45 crore has now been approved to ensure their timely completion. This move is expected to enhance rural infrastructure and connectivity, improving access and quality of life for residents in remote areas.
Recruitment Decisions for Transport Sub-Inspectors
In a key human resources decision, the cabinet approved the recruitment of 25 candidates for the post of Transport Sub-Inspector, selected through the State Service Examination 2022. These candidates will be appointed under new terms and conditions, requiring them to complete a one-year computer diploma and obtain a driving license within a two-year probation period. Failure to meet these requirements during the probation period will result in immediate termination of services.
Scheme Impact and Future Prospects
The extension of CMUIDS and additional funding for both urban and rural development projects reflects the Madhya Pradesh government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, public amenities, and connectivity across the state. The initiatives are expected to benefit millions of residents by enhancing urban services, improving road safety, and supporting community welfare. With clear timelines and accountability measures in place, the government aims to strengthen both urban and rural development, providing a robust foundation for long-term growth.
