Bhopal: A three-day state-level Panchayat workshop and Watershed Festival was inaugurated in Bhopal today at the Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Centre. The event also saw the honouring of districts, blocks, and officials for their exemplary work under the ‘Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign’.
District and Block Vice-Chairpersons to Inspect Schools
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that vice-chairpersons of Zila Panchayats and Janpad Panchayats will now officially inspect schools. Their observations will be implemented by the administration, and actions will be taken based on their reports. CM Yadav emphasized that inspections will no longer remain just a paperwork exercise—issues highlighted by vice-chairpersons will be recorded and acted upon immediately by collectors and district education officers.
Historic Gathering of Panchayat Leaders
The workshop brought together nearly 1,500 Panchayat representatives, including district and block chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and selected sarpanches. Senior officials, including Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Prahlad Singh Patel and State Minister Radha Singh Lodhi, were also present.
Addressing the gathering, CM Yadav inspired Panchayat leaders, stating that they not only hold new responsibilities but also new aspirations, with the potential to reach the state assembly in the future. He highlighted the significance of strengthening Panchayats and linked his vision to the poetic lines of Kabir:
“Slowly, slowly, everything happens; the gardener waters a hundred pots, the fruit comes in its season.”
Empowering Panchayats for Self-Reliance
CM Yadav stressed that villages are the soul of India and that the tradition of self-governance has existed since ancient times. Panchayats will no longer be mere implementing agencies—they will set development priorities and drive the rural economy. “Earlier, a thirsty person went to the well, but our government has taken the well to the thirsty,” the CM said. He encouraged representatives to openly discuss problems during the three-day workshop, assuring that solutions will emerge from this dialogue.
He emphasized that positions are part of a system, not personal prestige. All office-bearers, from Chief Minister to sarpanches, share the responsibility of strengthening villages, which in turn strengthens the nation.
Three-Day Agenda Focuses on Development and Self-Reliance
Minister Prahlad Singh Patel detailed the workshop agenda:
- Day 1: Development of semi-urban Panchayats and district-level development plans
- Day 2: Water conservation, sanitation, and PESA Act implementation
- Day 3: Self-reliant Panchayat models and integrating MGNREGA for sustainable development
During all sessions, ministers and officials will directly answer questions from Panchayat representatives. The CM’s call that Panchayat leaders could one day reach the state assembly was met with thunderous applause and slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Panchayat Raj Zindabad,” leaving several female sarpanches emotional.
A New Dawn for Panchayats in MP
This three-day workshop is expected to have a transformative impact on 23,000 Gram Panchayats, 313 Janpad Panchayats, and 52 Zila Panchayats across Madhya Pradesh. The discussions and strategies emerging from the Kushabhau Thackeray Convention Centre are set to reach villages across the state, supporting CM Yadav’s vision of self-reliant and empowered Panchayats by 2028.
