Jewar, Uttar Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Noida International Airport at Jewar, marking the end of a 24-year-long wait and ushering in a new era of connectivity and infrastructure development in Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh.
Built at an investment of ₹11,200 crore, the airport is being hailed as Asia’s largest greenfield airport project and a major milestone in India’s aviation sector.
A Historic Infrastructure Milestone
The foundation of the project dates back to 2001, when the proposal for a greenfield international airport and aviation hub was first introduced. With its inauguration, the region now witnesses the realization of a long-pending vision.
Developed and operated by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL)—a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG—the project has been executed with the support of both central and state governments.

Key Features of Noida International Airport
The airport stands out for its advanced infrastructure and future-ready design:
- Initial passenger capacity: 12 million annually, expandable to 70 million
- Runway: 3,900 meters long, capable of handling wide-body aircraft
- All-weather operations: Equipped with advanced navigation systems and runway lighting
- DGCA approval: Aerodrome license granted in March 2026
- Cargo capacity: Over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, expandable further
- MRO facility: India’s first airport with in-house Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul services
These features position the airport as a world-class aviation hub capable of handling both passenger and cargo traffic efficiently.
Boost to Connectivity and Regional Growth
Strategically located near the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is NCR’s second major civil airport and is expected to significantly ease congestion at Delhi’s existing airport.
The project will:
