New Delhi— In a key leadership move, the Board of Directors of SJVN Ltd, a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, has approved the appointment of Vivek Bhatnagar as the Chief Internal Auditor of the company.
With an extensive career spanning over 34 years,Bhatnagar brings a wealth of experience across both the private and public sectors, particularly in the domains of finance, accounts, taxation, and regulatory compliance.
A Career Rooted in Financial Leadership
Bhatnagar began his professional journey in the private sector in 1990 before joining THDC Ltd., a Central Public Sector Undertaking, in 1992 as Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO). He later rejoined the private sector with ACC Cements and Diamond Cements, holding managerial roles in finance from 1995 to 1998.
His return to THDC Ltd. in 1998 marked a long and productive phase in public sector finance. Rising through the ranks to Manager (Finance), he was entrusted with responsibilities including central accounts, fund control, taxation, and tariff petition filings with CERC (Central Electricity Regulatory Commission).

Association with SJVN
Bhatnagar joined SJVN Ltd in August 2009 as Manager (Finance) at the company’s flagship 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) in Jhakri. Over the years, he progressed to the role of Deputy General Manager (Finance & Accounts). His duties included managing major civil works, financial closures, accounts finalization, and tariff submissions, contributing significantly to the operational and regulatory efficiency of NJHPS.
Leadership Roles at Subsidiary and Corporate HQ
In March 2024, he took over as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at SJVN Thermal Power Ltd. (STPL), Buxar, where he managed the entire finance and accounts portfolio of the subsidiary. By August 2024, he was transferred to SJVN’s Corporate Headquarters in Shimla, where he was responsible for managing critical financial trusts such as Provident Fund, Gratuity, and Post-Retirement Medical Schemes (PRMS), along with oversight of the Establishment and Welfare Section and third-party financial processes.
Strategic Importance of the Role
As Chief Internal Auditor, Bhatnagar will oversee internal controls, audit systems, risk management, and compliance processes within the organization. His vast experience, especially in regulatory filings and financial structuring, is expected to strengthen SJVN’s internal governance and contribute to its strategic goals amid ongoing diversification into renewable energy and thermal power sectors.
