New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy initiatives, NHPC Limited and Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKSPDCL) have signed an Implementation Agreement to develop two major hydroelectric projects with a combined capacity of 500 MW in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The agreement, signed on March 27, 2026, marks a major step toward enhancing clean energy generation and strengthening the region’s power infrastructure.
Details of the Hydroelectric Projects
The implementation agreement covers the following projects:
- Uri-I Stage-II Hydroelectric Project – 240 MW
- Dulhasti Stage-II Hydroelectric Project – 260 MW
Both projects will be developed by NHPC on a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) basis for a period of 40 years, ensuring long-term management, operation, and eventual transfer back to the government authority.

Signing Ceremony and Key Officials
The agreement was signed at Jammu by:
- Rahul Yadav, Managing Director, JKSPDCL
- Anish Gouraha, Executive Director, NHPC
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both organizations, highlighting the collaborative efforts toward advancing hydropower development in the region.
NHPC’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Bhupender Gupta, congratulated the teams involved and praised their commitment to promoting sustainable energy projects that support India’s renewable energy targets.

With a total installed capacity of 500 MW, the Uri-I Stage-II and Dulhasti Stage-II projects are expected to:
- Strengthen reliable power supply in Jammu & Kashmir
- Contribute significantly to India’s clean energy targets
