New Delhi: In a landmark achievement for India’s energy sector, Oil India Limited (OIL) recorded its highest-ever daily oil and gas production of 1,47,159 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) on March 26, 2026. The milestone highlights the company’s operational excellence and its role in strengthening India’s energy security amid global supply challenges.
OIL said the achievement was driven by record drilling of 73 wells and 300 workovers, with crude oil production reaching 80,060 barrels—the highest daily output in the last 10 years.
Building on Strong FY25 Performance
This record daily output follows OIL’s strong annual performance in FY 2024-25. Key highlights from the company’s annual report include:
- Crude oil production: 3.458 million metric tonnes (MMT), up 2.95% from 3.359 MMT in FY 2023-24
- Natural gas production: 3,252 MMSCM, setting a new record
- Total oil and oil-equivalent gas output: 6.710 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MMTOE), the highest since the company’s inception
These gains underscore OIL’s consistent growth trajectory and its contribution to India’s energy self-reliance.

Significance Amid West Asia Fuel Disruptions
The record production comes at a critical time as India faces severe fuel supply disruptions from West Asia. The Petroleum Ministry recently highlighted that the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for 20% of the world’s crude, natural gas, and LPG, has been disrupted and is “effectively closed to commercial shipping.”
OIL stated that this achievement reflects its strong operational performance and its “continued commitment towards strengthening India’s energy security,” ensuring that domestic energy needs are met despite international uncertainties.
Record Operational Efforts Behind the Milestone
The company emphasized that the milestone was made possible through intensive operational measures:
- 73 new wells drilled
- 300 workovers executed to optimize existing fields
- Enhanced production techniques to maximize output efficiency
Such measures position OIL as a critical player in maintaining stable energy flows for India during global supply challenges.
