New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Mr Om Birla, MP from Kota, Rajasthan, inaugurated the Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) Centenary Shatabdi Sammelan in New Delhi today, describing the Commission as a foundational pillar of India’s nation-building journey. He highlighted UPSC’s 100-year legacy as a landmark chapter in the evolution of India’s democratic and administrative systems.
Addressing the inaugural session, Mr. Birla praised the Commission’s commitment to merit, transparency, and ethical values, noting that UPSC has inspired millions of young Indians to serve the nation with dedication and integrity.
UPSC’s Role in a Transforming India
In his keynote address, Mr. Birla emphasized that UPSC’s role has become even more crucial as India moves toward the vision of becoming a developed and inclusive nation by 2047.
He noted that the Commission has adapted to the demands of the digital age, artificial intelligence, and a fast-changing global environment by making its selection processes more advanced, scientific, and transparent.

The Speaker underlined that UPSC has upheld India’s democratic values by offering equal opportunities to candidates from diverse social, linguistic, and geographical backgrounds.
He said that this inclusivity has strengthened public trust in India’s administrative system and enriched the nation’s governance structure.
Mr. Birla added that UPSC’s century-long journey is not merely an administrative timeline but a remarkable saga of service, governance, and nation-building, reflecting its immense contribution to public service delivery across the country.

Highlighting that UPSC has shaped generations of committed civil servants, Mr. Birla said the Commission has consistently produced officers who embody knowledge, hard work, and ethical values.
He expressed confidence that the centenary year will inspire the UPSC to chart a new path for the next century—developing a generation of public servants who will contribute to a developed, innovative, and globally leading India.
Mr. Birla also extended his greetings to all former and current chairpersons, members, officers, and staff of the UPSC.
