New Delhi: Indian Railways’ One Station One Product (OSOP) initiative has emerged as a significant platform for promoting local craftsmanship, supporting grassroots entrepreneurship, and reviving India’s rich regional heritage.
Expanding Reach Across India
As of January 19, 2026, OSOP has been implemented at 2,002 railway stations, with a total of 2,326 operational outlets. These outlets connect local artisans, weavers, and small producers directly with millions of passengers every day, creating new economic opportunities.
Since its launch in 2022, the initiative has benefited over 1.32 lakh artisans and producers, providing them with sustainable livelihoods and wider market access.
Reviving Traditional Crafts
OSOP is more than a commercial initiative; it is a cultural revival platform. The scheme helps preserve regional specialties, including:
- Handmade pottery and bamboo work in the Northeast
- Handlooms, local spices, and traditional sweets across other regions
By showcasing these unique products at railway stations, OSOP brings regional identity to the national stage and reintroduces traditional crafts to a wider audience.
Enhancing Passenger Experience
By integrating commerce with culture, Indian Railways has transformed stations into vibrant hubs of local enterprise. Passengers benefit from authentic regional products, while local communities gain direct market access, promoting inclusive economic growth.
The initiative is a key example of the “Vocal for Local” campaign, empowering communities while enriching the travel experience across the country.
