PM Modi Inaugurates BEL’s ₹362 Crore Advanced Night Vision Factory in Andhra Pradesh to Boost India’s Defence Manufacturing

The state-of-the-art BEL facility at Nimmaluru, Krishna district, will produce advanced electro-optic and night vision systems, strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence technology and creating high-skilled jobs.

Nimmaluru/Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated Bharat Electronics Limited’s (BEL) state-of-the-art Advanced Night Vision Products Factory to the nation at Nimmaluru, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. The facility, established with an investment of approximately ₹362 crore, marks a major step forward in strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Governor S Abdul Nazeer, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, alongside senior BEL officials including CMD Manoj Jain and GM (DCCS) Jitendra Singh.

Strengthening Self-Reliance in Defence

The Nimmaluru facility will play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for advanced night enablement systems for India’s armed forces. It will produce a wide range of electro-optic products such as night vision devices, infrared seekers for indigenous missiles, and anti-drone systems—enhancing India’s operational capabilities across multiple terrains and security scenarios.

State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility

Spread across 50 acres, the factory has been designed to incorporate Industry 4.0 manufacturing technologies, ensuring high productivity, reduced lead times, and superior quality standards. The facility includes a 5,800 sqm Clean Room area, which provides a contamination-free environment for assembling and testing high-precision opto-electronic components.

Its primary focus will be the production of Image Intensifiers, Thermal Imaging Systems, and other critical electro-optical products essential for surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat operations in low-light or nighttime conditions.

Boosting Employment and Indigenous Capabilities

The establishment of this advanced facility not only underscores India’s strides toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing but also promises to generate high-skilled employment opportunities in the region. It further strengthens the country’s indigenous defence ecosystem, reducing dependency on imports.
