Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Power Grid), a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power, has been awarded two key inter-state transmission system (ISTS) projects through Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB). The projects, to be executed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis, aim to enhance the transmission infrastructure in Gujarat and Karnataka, ensuring reliable power supply across these regions.
The first project involves the augmentation of transformation capacity at KPS1 and KPS2 (Phase-V, Part B1 and B2) in Gujarat, which includes upgrading Gas-Insulated Substations (GIS) to strengthen the state’s energy infrastructure. The second project focuses on increasing capacity at the Bidar substation in Karnataka by installing three 500 MVA 400/220 kV ICTs and one 1500 MVA 765/400 kV ICT.
Power Grid received the Letters of Intent (LoIs) for both projects on January 6, 2025, officially commencing its responsibilities under the TBCB framework. These strategic projects are expected to significantly bolster the transformation capacity and improve power transmission, supporting India’s growing energy needs.
