New Delhi: Chiefs and Vice-Chiefs of Armies from various United Nations Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs), accompanied by their spouses, called on the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. The visit took place as part of the ongoing Army Chiefs’ Conclave for United Nations TCCs, aimed at strengthening international cooperation in peacekeeping operations.
Addressing the delegates, President Murmu lauded the distinguished military leaders as “proud representatives of the best values and ethos of their nations,” recognizing their collective commitment to fostering sustainable peace and global security.
Recognizing the Service of UN Peacekeepers
The President highlighted the vital role played by UN peacekeeping forces, noting that peacekeepers have served in 71 missions worldwide, often in some of the most challenging and conflict-affected regions. She praised their courage, compassion, and selfless service, especially in protecting vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly.
Reaffirming India’s strong commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the UN Charter, she said India has been a steadfast contributor to UN Peacekeeping since its inception. Over the decades, Indian peacekeepers have earned global recognition for their professionalism, dedication, and leadership in some of the most complex missions.

Emphasis on Gender Inclusion and Local Engagement
President Murmu also underlined India’s achievements in gender inclusion in peacekeeping. She noted that women peacekeepers have empowered local communities, built trust, and enhanced the impact of missions on the ground.
She stressed the need for troop-contributing nations to collectively advocate for stronger representation and active engagement with local stakeholders. “Peace must not be enforced; it should be nurtured through participative processes,” she said, emphasizing a collaborative and inclusive approach to peacebuilding.

“Together as Custodians of Peace”
Expressing optimism about the outcome of the Army Chiefs’ Conclave, the President said she was confident that such gatherings would foster new ideas, deeper cooperation, and enduring partnerships among troop-contributing nations.
She concluded with a powerful message: “Together as custodians of peace, we should enable a world where every child sleeps in safety, every community thrives in harmony, and conflicts are relegated to the pages of history.”
