Hyderabad: In a significant recognition of its operational excellence and strategic contributions, Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), a premier ‘Schedule A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), has been conferred with the coveted Miniratna (Category-I) status by the Government of India.

The elevation to Miniratna status marks a proud milestone for ECIL and the DAE family, symbolizing the company’s consistent financial performance, strategic innovation, and unwavering commitment to nation-building, particularly in the domain of strategic electronics.

With this recognition, ECIL will now enjoy enhanced autonomy and operational flexibility, empowering it to undertake new projects, form joint ventures, and expand its footprint in high-tech and indigenous electronics solutions-critical to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

A Strategic Leap Forward
Founded in 1967, ECIL has played a pivotal role in developing indigenous electronics for the nuclear, defense, aerospace, and communication sectors, often serving as a technological arm of India’s strategic establishments.

CMD of ECIL, Anurag Kumar, congratulated all employees-both past and present-for thei “unwavering dedication and professionalism” that made this achievement possible. He called on the team to embrace future challenges with renewed zeal, reinforcing ECIL’s role as a national asset.

This status is not just a badge of honour, but also a call to push boundaries. Let us work together to scale new heights and contribute meaningfully to India’s self-reliance journey,” said Shri Anurag Kumar.

Empowering Growth with Miniratna Status
The Miniratna (Category-I) status is granted to CPSEs that have shown consistent profitability and have a positive net worth. With this status, ECIL gains the authority to:

  • Make capital expenditure decisions up to ₹500 crore without government approval
  • Form strategic joint ventures
  • Enter into technology collaborations and M&A activities

This new autonomy will allow ECIL to accelerate development in critical areas such as cybersecurity, electronic warfare, radar systems, secure communications, and nuclear instrumentation, making it a cornerstone of India’s secure infrastructure.

Looking Ahead
As India scales up its ambitions in high-end electronics, digital security, and strategic autonomy, ECIL’s upgraded status positions it to take on larger, more complex national and international projects, in line with the vision of a self-reliant, technologically advanced India.
