Angul: In a strategic move to cater to the rapidly evolving needs of the automotive industry, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, has officially launched its latest innovation — the IA90 Grade Aluminium Alloy Ingot.
The product was unveiled by Mr Sadashiv Samantaray, Director (Commercial) of NALCO, at the company’s Smelter and Power Complex in Angul, Odisha. Senior executives and technical teams were present during the launch ceremony, reflecting the importance of this development in NALCO’s long-term strategic roadmap.
Product Innovation Aligned with Industry Needs
Specially engineered for high-performance and safety-critical automotive applications, the IA90 aluminium alloy is designed to offer enhanced mechanical strength, excellent wear resistance, and superior corrosion protection.
These features make it particularly suitable for the production of key auto components such as:
- Wheels
- Engine blocks
- Cylinder heads
- Other structural automotive parts
The alloy also features exceptional castability, enabling efficient and precise manufacturing processes — a critical requirement for the automotive sector where quality, performance, and cost-effectiveness are paramount.
Strengthening Domestic Supply and Innovation
With this launch, NALCO continues to strengthen its position as a reliable supplier of advanced aluminium products for India’s growing manufacturing ecosystem. The IA90 grade is seen as a response to the increasing demand for high-quality, lightweight, and durable materials in the Indian auto sector, which is witnessing significant expansion and technology shifts, including the shift to electric vehicles.
“This launch underscores NALCO’s commitment to product innovation and responsiveness to market dynamics,” said Mr Samantaray. “We are confident that IA90 will set a new benchmark in the aluminium alloy segment, particularly for automotive applications.”
Driving India’s Self-Reliance Goals
The launch of IA90 also aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative by reducing dependence on imported high-grade aluminium alloys. NALCO’s enhanced portfolio contributes not only to industrial growth but also to creating a sustainable and resilient domestic supply chain in the metal and manufacturing sectors.
