The State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Shamsher Singh as the Nominee Director on the Board of SBI Cards and Payment Services Limited.
Shamsher Singh is a seasoned banking professional with a diverse and extensive career in both domestic and international banking. He is an alumnus of SGTB Khalsa College, Delhi University, and holds an associate’s degree from the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance. He is also a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), accredited by the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS), USA.
Throughout his career at SBI, Singh has held several key leadership positions. He served as the Country Head and CEO of SBI Bahrain and was the Regional Head for the Middle East, West Asia, Maldives, North Africa, and South Africa. Domestically, he has worked as Chief General Manager in Ahmedabad and also held the position of Managing Director and CEO of SBI Funds Management Limited.
Since December 2024, Shamsher Singh has been serving as the Deputy Managing Director of the State Bank of India.
SBI Card was launched in 1998 by the SBI and GE Capital. Incorporated as SBI Cards and Payment Services Private Limited (SBICPSL), headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana. In December 2017, State Bank of India and The Carlyle Group acquired GE Capital`s stake in SBI Card. The company changed its legal name to SBI Cards and Payments Services Limited in August 2019. In March 2020, SBI Card became the first pure play credit card company to list on the stock exchanges in India.
