SECL Signs MoU with NSDC to Set Up Multi-Skill Development Institute in Korba, Chhattisgarh

The ₹6.86 crore CSR initiative aims to train 1,260 youth in vocational skills, boosting employment and self-employment opportunities in coalfield regions.

New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has taken a major step toward community development and youth empowerment by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Under this partnership, a state-of-the-art Multi-Skill Development Institute (MSDI) will be set up at Gevra CETI in Korba district, Chhattisgarh.

The initiative is aimed at equipping the youth from SECL’s operational areas with industry-relevant skills, thereby enhancing their employability and self-employment opportunities.

₹6.86 Crore CSR Project to Benefit 1,260 Youth

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, SECL will provide financial assistance of ₹6.86 crore for the establishment of the MSDI.

The institute is expected to train 1,260 youth over a period of three years, with a focus on vocational and technical courses. In the first phase, training will be provided in:

  • Assistant Electrician
  • Sewing Machine Operator
  • Assembly Operator (RAC)

The MSDI will be equipped with modern infrastructure, advanced training equipment, and state-of-the-art facilities to ensure high-quality skill development.

MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Officials

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Mr. C.M. Verma, General Manager (CSR), SECL, Mr. Rishikesh Patankar, Vice President – Government Programmes & CSR, NSDC, and Ms. Sarita Bhatia, General Manager – CSR, NSDC, along with senior officials from the SECL CSR Department.

This strategic collaboration reflects SECL’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development in coal mining regions.

Empowering Communities Through Skill Development

The MSDI project aligns with India’s Skill India Mission and aims to bridge the skill gap in rural and semi-urban areas, particularly around coalfields. By providing structured vocational training, the initiative will create job-ready youth, enabling them to secure stable employment or start their own ventures.
