Senior IAS officer Mugdha Sinha has been appointed as the Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Ltd, marking a significant elevation in her central deputation tenure. A 1999-batch officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Sinha will now serve at the Additional Secretary level under the Ministry of Tourism.
The appointment comes as part of a major reshuffle announced by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday, involving 15 IAS officers. Until now, Sinha held the post of Director General (Tourism), where she played a key role in shaping India’s tourism policy landscape.
Mugdha Sinha was deputed to the Centre in September 2022 and began her central tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture. Known for her administrative acumen and deep engagement with cultural policy, she had previously served in Rajasthan overseeing the state’s art, literature, and culture sectors.
Her promotion is being seen as a recognition of her leadership and experience. With four years remaining before her superannuation, officials believe she may be entrusted with even more prominent responsibilities in the coming years.
Meanwhile, the trend of Rajasthan cadre officers opting for central deputation continues. IAS officers Prakash Rajpurohit and Ashish Gupta have recently moved to the Centre this month. In addition, Bhanu Prakash Eturu, Ashutosh A.T. Pednekar, and Bhagwati Prasad Kalal are awaiting central postings, with No Objection Certificates (NOCs) already issued by the Rajasthan government. They are likely to be appointed as Joint Secretaries in various departments.
Mugdha Sinha’s new role at ITDC comes at a time when tourism infrastructure and heritage promotion are gaining momentum under the government’s Viksit Bharat @2047 vision. Her appointment is expected to bolster ITDC’s initiatives in expanding sustainable and culturally rooted tourism across the country.
