Patna: Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Shivdeep Wamanrao Lande, known across Bihar as the “super cop”, has officially entered the political battlefield. Days after announcing his intention to contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections from Araria and Jamalpur (Munger) constituencies, Lande obtained a non-resident certificate (NRC) from the Araria Sub-Divisional Office on Monday, fulfilling a key requirement for filing his nomination.
He is expected to file his nomination for the Araria seat on Friday.
From “Supercop” to Political Challenger
Lande, a 2006-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, took voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Service on September 19, 2024, and later launched his own political outfit “Hind Sena” on April 8, 2025. Due to registration delays, he will contest the elections as an independent candidate.
In a statement to the media after receiving his NRC, Lande said:
“My colleagues told me that to strengthen the party, I have to lead from the front. I am contesting as an independent. I appeal to voters to rise above caste, religion, and community, and vote for true development.”
Why Araria and Jamalpur?
Both Araria and Jamalpur hold personal and professional significance for Shivdeep Lande. As a Superintendent of Police in Araria, he earned public acclaim for his crackdown on drug traffickers and criminal gangs. Jamalpur in Munger was his first posting during his probation period, where he took strong action against Maoists.
