Patna: Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Shivdeep Wamanrao Lande, known across Bihar as the “super cop”, has officially entered the political battlefield. Days after announcing his intention to contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections from Araria and Jamalpur (Munger) constituencies, Lande obtained a non-resident certificate (NRC) from the Araria Sub-Divisional Office on Monday, fulfilling a key requirement for filing his nomination.

He is expected to file his nomination for the Araria seat on Friday.

From “Supercop” to Political Challenger

Lande, a 2006-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, took voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Service on September 19, 2024, and later launched his own political outfit “Hind Sena” on April 8, 2025. Due to registration delays, he will contest the elections as an independent candidate.

In a statement to the media after receiving his NRC, Lande said:

My colleagues told me that to strengthen the party, I have to lead from the front. I am contesting as an independent. I appeal to voters to rise above caste, religion, and community, and vote for true development.

Why Araria and Jamalpur?

Both Araria and Jamalpur hold personal and professional significance for Shivdeep Lande. As a Superintendent of Police in Araria, he earned public acclaim for his crackdown on drug traffickers and criminal gangs. Jamalpur in Munger was his first posting during his probation period, where he took strong action against Maoists.

Who Is Shivdeep Lande?

  • Born: August 29, 1976, in Akola district, Maharashtra
  • Education: Electrical Engineering from Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Shegaon
  • First Service: Indian Revenue Service (IRS), later cleared UPSC again and joined IPS in 2006
  • Popular Titles: ‘Dabangg’, ‘Singham’, and ‘The Supercop’
  • Notable Posts: SP of Patna (Central), SP of Araria, Purnia, Munger; DIG of Tirhut and Kosi Divisions; IG of Purnia Range
  • Last Held Position: Inspector General, Purnia Range (Bihar)

He earned widespread popularity for his tough stance on criminals, especially eve-teasers, and was known for his community outreach.

Social Work and Public Image

Lande is also admired for his philanthropic contributions. Reports suggest he donated 60–70% of his salary to support mass weddings for underprivileged girls and ran free coaching and hostel facilities for students in his hometown Akola.

Family Background

  • Wife: Mamta Shivtare, daughter of former Maharashtra Minister Vijay Shivtare
  • Daughter: Arhaa
  • Family Roots: Farmer family from Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region

 Political Leap with Hind Sena

Lande launched Hind Sena in April 2025, stating his mission is to bring clean governance, rule of law, and development-oriented politics to Bihar. However, due to ongoing procedural issues with the Election Commission, he has opted to contest as an independent candidate for now.

What’s Next?

Lande’s entry into politics is expected to generate significant buzz, especially in the constituencies he once policed. With his clean image, bold service record, and strong public connect, he is likely to draw youth and first-time voters, positioning himself as a reformist alternative to traditional candidates.
