Patna/Araria/Munger: In a surprising setback to his political debut, former IPS officer Shivdeep Lande—popularly known as Bihar’s “Supercop”—lost the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections from both Araria and Jamalpur constituencies, where he contested as an independent candidate. Despite high public visibility and a strong reputation from his policing career, Lande failed to make a mark electorally, finishing a distant third in Jamalpur and fourth in Araria.
Big Defeat in Jamalpur: Lande Finishes Third With 15,655 Votes
In Jamalpur (Munger District), where Lande had hoped for a strong performance due to his early career posting, the results were disappointing:
- Winner: Nachiketa (JD-U) — 96,683 votes
- Runner-up: Narendra Kumar (IIP) — behind by 36,228 votes
- Shivdeep Lande: 15,655 votes (3rd position)
- Margin of Lande’s defeat: 81,028 votes
Despite his previous policing presence in the region, Lande failed to convert popularity into electoral support.
Araria Results: Lande Slips to Fourth Position
The situation was even more stark in Araria, a district where Lande once served as Superintendent of Police and gained immense recognition for his strong crackdown on crime.
- Winner: Abidur Rahman (Congress)
- Second: Shagufta Azim (JD-U)
- Third: Md. Manzoor Alam (AIMIM)
- Fourth: Shivdeep Lande — 4,085 votes
- Margin of Lande’s defeat: 87,444 votes
In both constituencies, Lande was not in serious contention, contrary to earlier predictions of a tight contest.
From “Supercop” to Political Challenger – But a Difficult Start
A 2006-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, Shivdeep Lande took voluntary retirement on September 19, 2024, before launching his political outfit Hind Sena on April 8, 2025. Due to registration delays with the Election Commission, he contested these elections as an independent candidate.
Speaking to the media earlier, Lande said –
“I appeal to voters to rise above caste, religion, and community, and vote for true development.”
Despite this appeal, his campaign struggled to gain ground against established political parties.
Why Mr Lande Chose Araria and Jamalpur
Both seats held emotional and professional significance for the former IPS officer:
Araria (Araria District): As SP, Lande was widely praised for –
- Crackdowns on drug cartels
- Action against criminal gangs
- Strengthening local law and order
Jamalpur (Munger): His first posting during probation, where he took notable actions against Maoist activities.
However, nostalgia did not translate into votes.

Political Journey and Launch of Hind Sena

However, administrative delays in registering the party forced him to contest independently, limiting his ability to build organizational support.
What’s Next for Shivdeep Lande?
With significant defeats from both seats, analysts believe Lande may:
- Strengthen the Hind Sena organizational structure before future elections
- Re-evaluate constituency choices
- Build grassroots networks rather than relying on his policing image
- Engage in long-term social and political outreach
His supporters argue that this is only the “first step” in his political journey, while critics say the results reflect the gap between image-based popularity and electoral machinery.
