Condemnation of Delhi Terrorist Attack

Major Decision on Senior Citizens’ Pension
A landmark decision was taken regarding the state’s old-age pension scheme. Senior citizens will no longer need to apply separately for pensions. Social Welfare Minister (Independent Charge) Asim Arun explained that eligible beneficiaries will be automatically identified through the Family ID system under the “One Family-One Identity” initiative. With their consent, pensions will be approved digitally and disbursed directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts within 15 days. Beneficiaries will also receive SMS updates for every installment and can track payments via a mobile app. Currently, 67.5 lakh senior citizens benefit from the scheme, but many remain outside due to procedural hurdles, which the new system aims to resolve.
Simplifying Rent Agreements for Transparency
To streamline rental arrangements, the cabinet approved concessions on stamp duty and registration fees for lease agreements up to 10 years. The move is aimed at encouraging written, registered agreements between landlords and tenants, reducing disputes, and ensuring better enforcement of the Rent Control Act. Finance Minister Khanna explained that under the current rules, registration is mandatory for leases exceeding one year, but most agreements are either verbal or unregistered.
Expansion of Labour Protection Across the State
The cabinet also amended the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act of 1962, extending its applicability from urban centers to the entire state. Now, establishments employing 20 or more workers will receive full legal protection under the law, ensuring employee rights while allowing smaller businesses to operate without additional burdens. Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar emphasized that this amendment will enhance labour welfare and boost commercial activity in Uttar Pradesh.
Promotion Opportunity for Village Revenue Officers
A significant change was approved in the Revenue Service Rules, opening promotion opportunities for Chainmen to the post of Lekhpal. Under the Fifth Amendment Rules 2025, two percent of total Lekhpal positions can now be filled through promotion, providing career growth opportunities for Chainmen for the first time.
Medical College to be Established in Baghpat
In a boost to healthcare infrastructure, the cabinet approved the allocation of 5.07 hectares of land in Gram Meethli, Baghpat, for the establishment of a medical college under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The land, previously owned by the Fisheries Department, will now be used by the Medical Education Department, with a small 0.53-hectare disputed portion excluded from the project.
Looking Ahead
The decisions made by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet highlight the government’s commitment to enhancing citizen welfare, improving infrastructure, and strengthening governance. From senior citizen pension reforms and rent transparency to labour protection and medical education expansion, these initiatives are set to create lasting benefits for residents across the state while reinforcing public security and celebrating national achievements.
