Lucknow: With winter approaching, the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department has taken proactive steps to ensure that no school child is left without proper clothing, including uniforms and sweaters. The government is providing financial assistance directly to parents’ bank accounts to cover expenses for uniforms, sweaters, shoes, socks, school bags, and stationery.
So far, the accounts of 1.03 crore (10.3 million) children have received the funds. The remaining 23 lakh (2.3 million) children will have the amount credited within seven days, with 10 lakh children receiving the money in the next two days.
Review Meeting Held to Monitor Progress
Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of Basic and Secondary Education, held a review meeting at the State Project Office in Nishatganj on Monday. The meeting focused on the process of transferring funds to the parents of children studying in government-run and aided schools for school-related necessities, including uniforms, sweaters, shoes, bags, and stationery.
The Additional Chief Secretary instructed all District Basic Education Officers (BSA) to ensure that parents are informed once the funds have been credited to their accounts and to monitor that the assistance is utilized for the intended purpose—children’s uniforms and educational materials.
Special Measures for Non-Aadhaar Children
The meeting also addressed children who do not yet have an Aadhaar card. It was decided that these children would also receive the benefit of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. Special efforts will be made through UIDAI to include all eligible children. This provision is applicable only for the current academic session, ensuring that no child misses out on the financial support.
Daily Monitoring to Ensure Timely Assistance
Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma emphasized that the department is conducting daily reviews to ensure timely assistance reaches every eligible child. The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to supporting children’s education and welfare, especially during the winter season, and aims to prevent any child from attending school inadequately dressed or lacking essential learning materials.
