Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath has announced a transformative shift in the functioning of the State Tax Department, declaring that only performance will determine field postings. Officers with a proven track record of target achievement and a clean image will be prioritized for crucial responsibilities.
Revenue Growth Linked to Clean Administration
Mr. Yogi Adityanath emphasized that transparency and accountability are now the cornerstone of departmental operations. He warned that underperforming zones and officers would be held accountable, and instructed officials to submit clear justifications for low revenue collection in areas falling below 50 percent.
Reform-Driven GST Market Surge Anticipated
Acknowledging the recent GST-related reforms, Mr. Adityanath stated that the market is witnessing positive momentum, and this is expected to reflect in tax revenues in the coming months. He reiterated that these reforms are key to achieving the economic targets under ‘Developed Uttar Pradesh’ and ‘Developed India 2047’.
Strict Directive Against Trader Harassment During Festivals
To ensure an entrepreneur-friendly environment, Mr. Adityanath directed that no unnecessary checks or raids should occur during Dhanteras and Diwali. The goal, he said, is to foster trust between the government and the business community while avoiding any perception of harassment.
Top Performing Zones Identified, Improvement Areas Flagged
In a comprehensive zone-wise review, the Chief Minister acknowledged higher-performing zones such as Bareilly (64.2%), Saharanpur (63.7%), Meerut (63%), Gorakhpur (62.5%), and Jhansi (62.1%). He called for targeted improvements in regions where performance was between 55% and 58%, urging swift corrective action.
Division-Wise Monitoring for Better Revenue Performance
The Chief Minister personally reviewed tax collection figures across all major divisions, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Aligarh, and Ghaziabad, among others. He directed zonal officers to develop action plans for improving underperforming blocks and stressed real-time performance monitoring.
Trust-Based Tax Environment as Foundation for Growth
Reiterating his government’s pro-growth stance, Mr. Adityanath highlighted the importance of a taxpayer-friendly environment, calling for the expansion of e-governance systems. Facilitating ease of compliance, he said, is essential for boosting long-term revenue generation.
Bareilly, Jhansi, Kanpur Set an Example
The Chief Minister noted that not a single area in Bareilly, Jhansi, and Kanpur Zone 1 reported revenue collections below 50 percent, terming their performance satisfactory and exemplary. These zones are expected to become models for others in the coming months.
Accountability for Underperformance to Be Strictly Enforced
Officers from regions falling below acceptable benchmarks have been asked to submit detailed explanations and outline immediate steps to recover revenue targets. Mr. Adityanath made it clear that non-performance will not be tolerated in the new performance-based governance model.
Towards a Developed Uttar Pradesh by 2047
“Revenue growth is not just a number—it is the bedrock of our state’s development goals,” said Mr. Adityanath. He underscored the crucial role of the Tax Department in realizing Uttar Pradesh’s vision of becoming a trillion-dollar economy and contributing to India’s 2047 development roadmap.
