Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the ‘Run for Unity’ in Lucknow on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary. He paid tribute to the Iron Man of India, emphasizing that the true homage to Patel lies in adopting his ideals in our daily lives.
The Chief Minister lauded Sardar Patel’s monumental role in integrating 563 princely states into a united India, calling it a cornerstone of the country’s unity and integrity. Addressing the event, he urged citizens to rise above caste, language, and religion, and work collectively to strengthen national unity, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives as a living tribute to Patel.
Tribute to Patel and National Unity
CM Yogi Adityanath offered floral tributes at Sardar Patel’s statue, highlighting Patel’s dedication and sacrifice for India’s unity. He said, “Sardar Patel’s life, commitment, and selfless service remain an inspiration for every Indian. On this National Unity Day, let us pledge to uphold India’s unity and integrity beyond caste, language, religion, or region.”
He also stated that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the tradition of honoring the nation-builders who united India began in 2014. The Chief Minister added that over 600 locations across the country are hosting ‘Run for Unity’ events, promoting patriotism and national integration among the youth.

Unity in Action, Not Just Words
The Chief Minister stressed that national unity should reflect in actions, not merely in speeches. Citing the Sanskrit principle, “Shivo Bhutva Shivam Yajet” – meaning one should align oneself with the ideals of those they revere – he urged citizens to practice Patel’s values of unity and integrity in daily life. He also referred to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat, as a national inspiration keeping Patel’s legacy alive.
Integration of 563 Princely States
Highlighting Patel’s historic achievement, CM Yogi said, “After independence, Patel thwarted British designs and unified 563 princely states into the Indian Republic. Even when some states like Hyderabad and Junagadh initially resisted, Patel first opted for dialogue, but acted decisively when national integrity was at stake.”
He also drew parallels with contemporary events, noting that the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir under PM Modi’s leadership fulfills Patel’s vision of a united India, calling it a true tribute to the Iron Man.
UP Cultural Delegation to Kevadia
To mark Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, a cultural delegation and group of artisans from Uttar Pradesh will visit Kevadia to pay homage to Patel on November 12, 2025, led by the state governor. The Chief Minister highlighted that this initiative also supports the ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Swadeshi’ campaigns, helping promote self-reliance among UP’s craftsmen.
National Unity Celebrated Across 75 Districts
CM Yogi noted that ‘Run for Unity’ events were organized in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, with participation from millions of youth, students, volunteers, officials, and citizens. He emphasized that the event symbolizes India’s unity, integrity, and social harmony rather than just being a run.
He also urged people to rise above casteism, nepotism, and untouchability, and work for the nation’s interest. “Drawing inspiration from Patel, we must resist any force that attempts to weaken the nation’s unity,” he added.
Other Dignitaries and Social Media Tribute
The event saw the presence of Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, Finance & Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, BJP UP President Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Rajya Sabha MP Brijlal, and several MLAs.
Earlier, CM Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to Patel on X (formerly Twitter), wishing citizens on National Unity Day and honoring Sardar Patel as a nation-builder. He wrote:
“On the 150th birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter, Iron Man, Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, I pay humble tribute. His tireless efforts for India’s internal security and unity inspire us to achieve the vision of ‘One India – Strong India.’”
