A police constable in Rajasthan showed extraordinary bravery despite being injured while taking on a shooter. He not only caught the armed robber but also dragged him for some distance with his injured hand. The state police have now promoted him to the rank of head constable.
1995 batch IPS officer Dinesh MN shared this story on social media which immediately went viral. He tweeted, “Police Constable Ramesh exhibited extraordinary bravery yesterday by firing at the criminals and pursuing them and catching one with help of police even though he himself was injured in Sujangarh, Churu yesterday. Kudos to this hero for his dedication.”
Rajasthan DGP Umesh Mishra issued the order for gallantry promotion of Kumar. He also lauded Ramesh Kumar’s courage in facing armed criminals.
The incident took place on April 26 in Churu’s Sujangarh area where three gunmen opened fire at a jewellery shop that Kumar was deputed to guard. Kumar was injured in the attack but he not only fired back at the gunmen but also chased them and caught hold of one of them.
The district police said that Kumar was deployed to provide security cover to a leading jeweller who had been receiving extortion calls from a notorious gangster. Despite being under heavy fire, Kumar kept his cool and fought back, the reports said.
