Today is Handloom Day 2023. The country observes National Handloom Day every year on 7 August to promote handlooms, and to recognise the efforts and skills of the weavers engaged in this sector.
2010 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre, Ms. Suman Rawat Chandra, who is currently posted as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Government of India, posted a beautiful photograph of hers in an equally beautiful handloom saree, from her Twitter account.
Along with the photo, she wrote that for her, every day is Handloom Day! “To be draped in colossal art forms from the hands of weaver gods is the highlight of my day, every day. Saree feat handloom is the most powerful amalgamation of sustainability. While fast fashion goes to landfill every day, I am confident to pass on my heirloom handloom sarees to next generation sustainability connoisseurs just like I am proud inheritor of these exquisite weaves from my previous generation.”
Indian Masterminds wishes all a very happy National Handloom Day!
