The Katarniyaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, is famous for a number of endangered species including the gharial, tiger, rhino, Gangetic dolphin, Swamp deer, Hispid hare, Bengal florican, the White-backed and Long-billed vultures.
Spread in the Terai region, the forest provides strategic connectivity between the tiger habitats of Dudhwa and Kishanpur in India and those in Nepal.
The Katarniyaghat forest also has swamp areas much like West Bengal’s famous Sundarbans which hosts the mangrove and the tigers. A tweet about this unique specialty of Katarniyaghat has created a buzz on social media.
A senior journalist, Ravish Ranjan Shukla tweeted, “The forest of Katarniyaghat is also unique in the sense that there are many water sources here whose water seeps from below the land. There is so much moisture in the forest that at some places water comes out after digging even five feet of land. All this is due to the flood of Kaudiyala and Gerua river, coming from Nepal.”
Many netizens are loving this tweet and inquiring about it.
