Indian Masterminds Stories

To live with cancer is to fight constant battles. One has to fight not just physical distress but also deep emotional pain.

Niti Aayog Director Urvashi Prasad has been fighting stage 4 ALK-positive cancer. Stage 4 means that the cancer has already spread to other organs from the primary organ.

For her, life is not easy by any means. She is fighting her biggest battle in life, not just with cancer but also with her body, mind, and emotions, to keep all fields of her life running smoothly.

Recently, she shared a post on X about her ordeal, and how she is battling a dangerous and life threatening disease that almost broke her.

She wrote: “This is me just last week. Perfectly normal & poised during a regular day at the office. Last night, I was a mess. Completely broken & shattered. I hated myself, my very existence. I could only scream & cry in the silence of the night. This is the ugly reality of cancer that we often don’t talk about. The physical scars are visible but what about the mental & emotional ones. What about all the toxicity that anti-cancer treatments leave us with. How difficult it is to live like a prisoner on death row. Not knowing which scan will bring with it news of your end. This is what we need to talk about.”

She also wrote that it’s a daily uphill battle, and even anti-depressants & anti-anxiety pills fail to help on many days. Stating why she is sharing all this, she wrote that she knows how lonely it gets “when only you can hear your silent screams.” Read her X post to know more:
